Sue Reilly Photography, natural, creative and dramatic wedding photography, also has a great passion for science-fiction. So we have been feeling very blessed recently with the number of sci-fi themed weddings we have photographed. However, this Star Wars themed wedding was in a universe all of its own!
Some Star Ward themed weddings can be primarily for fun, some may be aspirational. However this Star Wars wedding as well as being an absolutely fun and totally aspirational, was an allegory for Recbecca and Peter. As in Star Wars, the couple have triumphed against adversity and continue to grow through their love for each other and through their determination to make a great future together.
From the moment I met the couple for their pre-wedding photography discussion, it was obvious they had something very special together. And this beautiful romance carried over into their amazing DIY wedding.
We started off their wedding day with groom and bride prep – both with suitable Star Wars elements. Groom prep included millennium falcon cuff-links, light sabres and family portraits in front of a garden archway inscribed “May the Force Be With You”. After getting some great photos together, the groom’s party changed back into civvies and drove the loaded trailer filled to overflowing with rustic and Star Wars themed decorations and headed off to decorate the ceremony venue.
Bride prep featured an amazing lavender wedding dress, with the bridesmaids dressed in deeper purple. The couple’s fur babies were also included in the wedding party with their own special bows. At the end of bride prep, an old-school Kombi van arrived to whisk the bridal party, family members and fur babies to the ceremony location at Roma Street Parkland.
The entire set-up at the Roma Street Parklands was DIY. There were Star Wars centre-pieces for the table, Star Wars themed cushions for the signing table, a magnificent circular wooden carved backdrop with the couple’s names plus a wedding arch beautifully decorated with flowers. The wedding was a monument to planning, attention to detail and vision.
The late afternoon ceremony, planned to capture the start of the golden hour in the huge trees surrounding the Harry Oakman Pavilion in the Roma Street Parkland, was a gold and green palette of sunlit magic.
The couple’s happiness and joy was infectious. It lit the ceremony and transformed the event into something magical that was a joy to be a part of.
The couple had wanted wedding rings made from a meteorite…but couldn’t manage it… well no just yet anyway. They’re still looking. In the meantime, they settled for more Earth-bound wedding rings presented in a Death Star ring case.
Following the ceremony, we had location photos in the Gardens. We started with the flower gardens just below the Pavilion and moved onto the Roma Street waterfalls beautifully lit at night.
We then returned to commence the Reception with a light sabre and sparkler entrance for the couple. This was followed by the cutting of the cake with a light sabre (what else??). The cake itself was a double-sided masterpiece: Stars War couple on one side and millennium falcon on the other.
The reception concluded with the bridal waltz outside under the stars and street lights. For examples of other science-fiction themed weddings I have photographed, please check out this Indigiscapes wedding on my facebook business page and this blogged Macarthur Park wedding.
